MEMORIAL TRUST
Dr Satyananda Memorial Trust was established with the aim to carry forward the legacy of Dr Satyananda Panda (1931-2018), noted educationist, social activist, philanthropist and writer from Paradip in Jagatsinghpur district of Odisha.The trust works in the field of education, community services, cultural integration, academic research, environment protection, etc, issues that were close to the heart of late Dr Panda, with a focus on supporting meritorious economically backward students.
SHORT BIOGRAPHY
Dr Satyananda Memorial Trust was established with the aim to carry forward the legacy of Dr Satyananda Panda (1931-2018), noted educationist, social activist, philanthropist and writer from Paradip in Jagatsinghpur district of Odisha. The trust works in the field of education, community services, cultural integration, academic research, environment protection, etc, issues that were close to the heart of late Dr Panda, with a focus on supporting meritorious economically backward students. Promotion of education was his life long passion, for he believed, its education that can address the issues of inequality and empower the marginalized in our society.
Among other things, this belief made him to give up his prestigious university teaching job form Utkal University to settle down in his village Jhimani near Paradip where he established a school – Janata Bidyapitha and a college – Narayan Birabar Samanata College and dedicated his life to help building many such educational institutes around the area as an advisor, mentor and trustee.

With rich knowledge and scholarly background on fishermen community, he worked as an adviser to the biggest fishermen co-operative society of Odisha – Kalinga Karnadhar Primary Fishermen Society at Paradip. Throughout his life he fought for the cause of the local farmers, land losers in industrial units around Paradeep and unemployed youth, causes dear to his heart.

Besides, he was also engaged in the study of the environmental hazards because of the industrial activities and the destruction of the mangroves at the sea-coast of Paradip. As a close associate of late Bankabihari Das, former minister and eminent environmentalist, he was part of the movement for protection of the environment in coastal Odisha.
